How can I learn to become EPIC certified?

That is a good questions. Typically, you can become certified as a consultant or if you work in the healthcare industry like I do. Here is a link to a listing of consultants on Epic's website. I am not sure what you are asking specifically other than a certification. Let me know if you have other questions.

I might be able to clear up Tara's question, 'cause I got the same one.

I have been looking for a job, and have seen many positions requiring EPIC certification.

<Sigh> I am in IT. Who can I contact about getting EPIC Certified? EPIC's website is just sales. Who trains and tests? The consultant's just say that you need, not how to get. Any ideas? (Not sure how long a post I can make, sorry for the brevity.)

I don't think Epic just randomly certifies individuals, like a Microsoft certification. You have to be part of a healthcare institution that uses Epic, or a consulting firm that consults on Epic applications. I could be wrong, but I think that is it. I work for a healthcare organization, so I needed to get certified since I train it one of the apps internally.

I wish I could be more helpful, but that is all I know.

Hi Chad,

I recently graduated with my MBA and would like to get consulting job in healthcare. Is there a school you can recommend for EPIC.

Thank you

There is not a "school", but here is a list of consultants... it is a start.

Epic Consultants

Hi Chad,

I received my OpTime certification last fall.

That is great! OpTime is one of my favorite Epic applications.

can you tell me how to go about getting epic certified, i am looking to get certified in the Epic HIM application and Epic EMR
can you please direct me on how to get epic certified
I have a list of consultants here that might prove helpful. Please look at the comments listed above :-)

Did you have to go to EPIC for the certification?

Yes, it is a requirement from Epic if you work in a hospital. I am sure the process is the same for consultants since there were a few in my classes.
I'm looking for an EPIC Optime Certified Trainer for a major hospital.
One of the best ways to get certified is to apply to and work for Epic Corporation. They will train you and get you certified. They do make you sign a non-compete that puts some limits on you once you leave the company, but it may be worth it to get into Healthcare IT and Epic software specifically.
Hey man, congrats on your cert.
Basically, the only way to become certified in any of Epic's applications is by having your employer (who muct be a client of Epic's) sponsor you for certification. I tried to persuade mine to give me a sponsorship, but failed miserably. It's unfortunate, as I've had multiple consulting firms contact me through Monster about jobs throughout the country, only to shoot me down once they found I had no certification.
Chapman is correct, you have to either work for EPIC Corp, a Epic Client who can be either a healthcare facility or private clinic, or a consultant company with Epic Clients.

I work for a healthcare facility that is a client of EPIC, and I am certified in Ambulatory and ASAP ED.

I work for a healthcare facility that is a client of EPIC, and I am certified in Ambulatory and ASAP ED. Your certification is good for one year, and since Epic rolls out an upgrade each Spring, you must complete a NVT ( New Version Training) to renew your certification. Which consists of a list of questions you complete on your own to renew.
Chad... happy to see that you're a Mac fan working on Epic. I am correct in assuming that Epic systems only run on PCs?

As to certification, isn't kind of a catch-22 that in order to get an Epic job you have to be certified, but you can be certified if you can't get hired?
Epic runs on Citrix, so technically it runs on PC, Mac and Linux. I run it on my Macs at home, and my PC laptop at work.

Regarding Epic, it is a catch 22. I got the healthcare job first, Epic came with the territory later.

Hi Chad,

I'm an MBA student doing work on how Healthcare IT.

Do you happen to anyone certified in Epic OpTime?

I see you've been certified for a while. How was your testing process? I just got results for OpTime cert test today and it was BRUTAL! The amount of info we must know is HUGE! the projects are nothing compared to that darn test.

Yeah. I took the practice test that came with our books. I did well on that, but it still paled in comparison to the real thing. I took about 90 minutes out of the two hours to complete it.

Okay...so you are a brain. 90 minutes??? get real!!! i was shaking the entire 2 hours and was given the privelege to repeat it next week

Are you an I.T. person or clinical? You blew threw that test! Congrats!

LOL! Thanks April. I am an IT guy, but my wife is a PA, so I know a couple of things :-)

The OR staff is great, and I even had one of the OR managers as one of my trainers when we went live with Phase I back in July 08.

Here is a post (I don't blog here anymore really) for my NVT:

Thanks, MOnica

It is a must to get the EPIC certification first before you get hired as a EPIC Analyst?

I am looking to change careers as my firefighter department recent let a few of us go because of the economy.

I am a certified paramedic and want a new and rewarding career that my family can be proud of. I am not sure if this is something that will work although it does seem to be something that I would be highly interested in. Thanks for any information that you may be able to provide in advance.
