If it's not tennis elbow, it may be "Wiiitis"

How many of you have experienced this? I have!

BOSTON (Reuters) - When Dr. Julio Bonis awoke one Sunday morning with a sore shoulder, he could not figure out what he had done. It felt like a sports injury, but he had been a bit of a couch potato lately.

Then he remembered his new Wii.

Bonis, 29, had spent hours playing Nintendo's new video game in which players simulate real movements. Bonis had been playing simulated tennis.

It was not quite tennis elbow, he decided.

"The variant in this patient can be labelled more specifically as 'Wiiitis,'" Bonis, a family practice physician, wrote in a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine.

"The treatment consisted of ibuprofen for one week, as well as complete abstinence from playing Wii video games. The patient recovered fully."

Wiiitis -- pronounced "wee-eye-tis" -- is the latest ailment to develop from the video game era, beginning with Space Invaders' wrist in 1981, which was caused by the repeated button mashing required by the popular arcade game.

Neo-Geo games heading to Virtual Console?

As the Wii’s Virtual Console gains more and more momentum, not only are we getting more and more games every week, this summer Wii owners everywhere will be blessed with a new format on the channel. Neo Geo will join the list of available systems and its games will soon be available on there for us all to enjoy, not just the rich ~~and famous~~ (some Neo Geo games are notoriously hard to come by and, because of this, can sell for huge sums of cash nowadays).

In a recent interview over at IGN, President of SNK Playmore USA Ben Herman suggested that they planned to price the games at “just a little above the Super NES” titles. That might sound costly to you but for games that sometimes sell for hundreds of pounds on everyones favourite auction site you really can’t complain

Nintendo "Pokemon" U.S. presales top half a million

I am on the fence if I want to reserve this. Don't get me wrong, the Wi-Fi battles should be awesome, but I am really into Zelda on the Wii and I would like to beat that first before taking on another RPG.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) on Tuesday said it expects upcoming video games "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl" for its hand-held DS player to be among the top-selling U.S. games of 2007, based on presales of more than 533,000.

The games, which are the latest installment in the popular animated "Pokemon" franchise that has spawned trading cards, toys and films, will introduce players to more than 100 new Pokemon characters, Nintendo said.

The new games will hit U.S. store shelves on April 22. Early orders are more than twice as strong as the presale numbers for "Pokemon FireRed" and "Pokemon LeafGreen," which launched in 2004 and went on to sell more than 3.4 million units combined in North America.

Chadman's Wii setup

Here is where my Wii is currently locaated; on top of the entertainment center. It is neatly out of the way actually put I need to find some place to store the accessories such as the additional Wii-mote and Classic controller.

Wii arm

Wii Arm

Yeah, it had to happen; I have "Wii arm". You know, the soreness that sets in after flailing your arms around like a mad person; it has happened to me. The first night of playing with my Wii (it still sounds funny) I felt fine. But since then I have had some intense sessions with my wife and prolonged time with Zelda. I guess I will get over it soon enough. Sort of like running for a while if you haven't; you are sore from head to toe. I am just a little sore on the elbow.

The Nintendo Wii is so awesome! I don't think I have had this much fun playing a videogame system in a long time! I have Wii Sports (included), Wii Play (came with an extra Wii Remote, or as I like to call it "Wii-mote") and Zelda. I played Zelda for about and hour and a half last night (Jen was a little grumpy it cut into her American Idol time; thank goodness for Tivo).

EA backpeddles to fill Wii demand

April 9 (Bloomberg) -- Video-game designer Nick Earl spent eight months holed up with his development team rushing to adapt ``The Godfather'' for Nintendo Co.'s Wii.

The reason for the long hours: Earl's employer, Electronic Arts Inc., like some of its competitors, underestimated demand for the Wii, whose motion-activated wand lets players wield a virtual sword, mimic real golf swings or strangle a victim. Instead, game makers put most of their resources into Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3, which was released two days earlier in November with a more conventional hand controller.

Now, publishers are scrambling to get titles to the 3.56 million U.S. and Japanese Wii owners who have made the machine the top-selling game console this year.

Nights confirmed: coming to Wii

According to Famitsu, Sonic Team USA will have its sequel to legendary Saturn title NiGHTS ready for a Wii release this winter. NiGHTS 2 will now be known as NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (although that name isn't confirmed for the Japanese market). Famitsu explains that the main attraction of Journey of Dreams is how it provides gameplay with the Wii Remote, where you can glide, drift, ascend, and loop-the-loop without even thinking about the controls. Takashi Izuka of Sonic Team USA is Producer of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. He leaves Famitsu, and the rest of the weeping-with-tears-of-joy world, with this comment:

"In 1996, we created the NiGHTS character to achieve a concept of 'being refreshed from being able to fly in the sky'. 11 years later, at last, we have broken our silence. NiGHTS will now fly in a new dream world: new stages, new story, and on the new Wii platform. Please look forward to NiGHTS and friends exploring this brand new adventure."

Man, that is priceless. When Reggie joined the Nintendo scene, he wasn't kidding with his "Kicking ass and taking names" comment.

Waiting for the Miyamoto keynote to start, I’m sitting three rows from the front. Close enough to see Nintendo’s resident BMOC, Reggie Fils-Aime at the front of the crowd, working it with his trademark smile and good will. He poses for pictures, he signs Wiimotes, he presses the flesh with a goodnatured ease that would make even the most seasoned politician weep with envy.

“Kick his ass and take his name!” someone shouted from a few rows behind me.

“Who?” answered Reggie in mid-autograph.

“Phil Harrison, front row!” Sure enough, there was Phil Harrison, seated dead center, front row. Looks like he could show up on time for Nintendo’s keynote, but not Sony’s.

With a grin and a chuckle, Reggie replies, “Some would say we’ve already done that.”

Touchdown. The crowd goes wild.
